About ResTek

Residential Technology Services (ResTek) is a program of the Office of University Residences at Western Washington University. ResTek Staff are trained to provide education and support to on-campus students in their use of technology.

The ResTek staff consists of student staff members, as well as 2 full-time staff members at WWU. For more information about the ResTek staff, see the Meet the staff page.

What ResTek provides

Internet access

  • High-speed Internet access in all residence halls, including Birnam Wood apartments

Cable television

  • Initial configuration and support for cable television in all residence halls

Support services

  • ResTek provides support for issues relating to your computer’s Internet connection. ResTek can help you remove viruses and spyware, prevent virus infections, troubleshoot problems with your web browser, and set up a wireless router in your room. Our goal is to educate students on how to keep their computer running securely.
  • We do not offer support for printers, mice, keyboards, monitors or other devices connected to your computer, but we are happy to give you the contact information for a local computer vendor. Assistance and tutorials for commonly used programs (Word, Excel, Photoshop, iMovie, etc) is available at Western’s Student Technology Center.
  • Support is available by phone, email, and room-visits from friendly peer consultants

Additional support

  • ResTek Interns - During the first week of Fall Quarter, students can receive computer support from ResTek interns living in their residence hall. To receive assistance from interns, students should fill out a paper ticket located on the TekHELP Ticket Board near the front desk of their residence hall.
  • Instruction Sheets - Instruction sheets for connecting your computer to the Internet are available on this website. If you need them and don’t currently have your computer connected to the internet, you can print them from the nearest computer lab.
  • Hall CD - The Hall CD is available for check-out from your front desk. The Hall CD is especially useful when spyware or viruses have blocked your access to the Internet. Included are step-by-step instruction that you may need to connect, repair, or clean-up your computer. The CD also has helpful programs (like spyware removers) that you can install on to your computer.
  • Our Website - Our website has instruction sheets, safety tips, and other helpful information for maintaining or repairing your computer. If you are unable to find the information you are looking for, feel free to contact ResTek so we may put that information on our website.
  • Ask ResTek - If you want to ask ResTek staff a question, you can fill out the Ask ResTek form on the website to have a message sent directly to the ResTek consultants. Depending on the scope of your question, we can provide you with a solution, or refer you to someone who can help you.
